Tree Species of the Chionanthus Genus
The Chionanthus genus is made up of approximately 82 species, however not enough is known on all the names, so just the confirmed named species are listed. Some Chionanthus species grow as shrubs and some grow as small to medium sized trees up to 3m - 25m in height. All Chionanthus species have leaves that are opposite and simple, see leaf identification. The Chionanthus flowers are produced in feathery panicles, the colors are white, pale yellow, or tinged pink. The Chionanthus fruit produced from flowering is a drupe containing a single seed. The Chionanthus genus has a wide distribution mainly in the tropics and subtropics regions, but with two species extending north into temperate regions; Chionanthus virginicus, in eastern North America, and Chionanthus retusus, in eastern Asia. Many of the tropical species are evergreen, and the two temperate species are deciduous. Facts about the Chionanthus Genus of Trees
